Below, K-12 teachers will find a worksheet that contains a series of prompts designed to help students start analyzing nonfiction texts. By discussing the key features of a focal text and making simple inferences about the author's intentions and their own perceptions, students using this framework can arrive at a deeper understanding of the text. Note that, though the prompts in this framework were written with nonfiction texts in mind, they can be easily adapted for other kinds of texts (and even courses other than English/language arts).
