Outstanding Leader of the Year Award 2009

Allen Brizee received the 2009 East Central Writing Centers Association Outstanding Leader of the Year Award. The award is given annually to recognize a leader for "various leadership contributions, including but not limited to: administrative work, development of new programs, tutor training innovations, presenting writing center work in academic forum(s) beyond the writing center, work with special populations, and creativity."

Kairos Graduate Student/Ajunct Service Award 2006

Karl Stolley was the recipient of the 2006 Kairos Graduate Student/Adjunct Service Award sponsored by Bedford/St. Martin's Press. Karl was recognized for his work on the OWL redesign and the Writing Lab's new Visitor Information System.

Outstanding Tutor of the Year Award 2006

Joy Santee was the recipient of the East Central Writing Centers Association Outstanding Tutor of the Year Award. The award is given annually to recognize a tutor for "innovative approaches to tutoring, the quality of work with writers and the articulation of a tutoring philosophy that guides the tutor."

Outstanding Leader of the Year Award 2005

Scott Peters was the recipient of the East Central Writing Centers Association Outstanding Leader of the Year Award. The award is given annually to recognize a leader for "various leadership contributions, including but not limited to: administrative work, development of new programs, tutor training innovations, presenting writing center work in academic forum(s) beyond the writing center, work with special populations, and creativity."

CCCC Writing Program of Excellence, Fall 2004

The Writing Lab at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, is one of eleven winners of the Conference on College Composition and Communication's (CCCC's) Writing Program Certificate of Excellence for Fall 2004. Established in 2004, this CCCC award is presented to 20 writing programs each year. The recipients of these awards will be honored for their achievement at the CCCC Conference on March 18, 2005.

The Purdue Writing Lab was cited for its excellent work, successfully demonstrating that their program meets the following criteria: it imaginatively addresses the needs and opportunities of its students, instructors, and locale; offers exemplary ongoing professional development for faculty of all ranks, including adjunct/contingent faculty; treats contingent faculty respectfully, humanely, and professionally; uses current best practices in the field; uses effective, ongoing assessment and placement procedures; models diversity and/or serves diverse communities; has appropriate class size; and has an administrator (chair, director, coordinator, etc.) with academic credentials in writing. In particular, the Purdue program was noted for its OWL and Writing Lab, together providing innovative and quality writing instruction to local, national, and international communities.

The Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), with 8,000 individual members worldwide, supports and promotes the teaching and study of college composition and communication.

The award is given annually to recognize a tutor for "innovative approaches to tutoring, the quality of work with writers and the articulation of a tutoring philosophy that guides the tutor."
