SURF Workshop Resources Introduction

The resources in this area of the OWL include materials for Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) Program at Purdue University. The SURF Program provides undergraduate students with opportunities to conduct supervised research, attend professional development seminars, and present their project findings at a symposium. The materials presented here are based on SURF workshops hosted by the Purdue University Writing Lab. These materials can help students in the fields of engineering, science, and technology to construct problem statements for a variety of audiences.

Workshop Structure

The following resources were used in a one-hour professional development workshop for the SURF program, which was hosted by the Purdue University Writing Lab. The participants of the workshop were students who had already begun assisting in larger research projects within their particular fields of interest. At the end of the program, students are expected to create a poster presentation of their research, so these resources were designed for students working on their own individual projects.
